The Cannery in Davis to Host First Annual CanRun on April 23

DAVIS, Calif. (March 18, 2016) – The Cannery in Davis is calling all runners! The New Home Company (“NEW HOME,” NYSE: NWHM), developers of California’s first farm-to-table new home community, has announced plans for the inaugural “CanRun,” a 5K and 10K Loop Run plus Kids Fun Run, set for Saturday, April 23, 2016 at The Cannery. Hundreds of participants are expected to register for the first annual event, with all proceeds to benefit the Davis Schools Foundation.

The CanRun will start and finish at The Cannery (1550 Cannery Avenue, Davis, CA 95616), and the course will also traverse the neighborhood streets of north Davis, past the coveted Community Park, Davis Little League fields, North Davis Elementary and Davis High Schools, and along The Cannery Loop Trail in the 5K. Runners have the opportunity to get in some additional mileage by registering for the 10K course which will also include the greenbelts and neighborhood streets of Northstar in Davis.

The 5K and 10K races will begin at 8 a.m., and the Kids ½ Mile Fun Run will begin at 10 a.m. All of the runs will conclude at 11 a.m. Registration and information on sign-up fees is now available at www.TheCanRun.com.

Presented by The Cannery, the beneficiary of the CanRun will be the Davis Schools Foundation (DSF), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization committed to educational excellence for all K-12 students in the Davis Joint Unified School District (DJUSD) since 2004. DSF works in partnership with parents, DJUSD and the community to provide grants to bolster, support and sustain district-wide educational opportunities that would not be possible with public funds.

Organizations interested in sponsorship of the CanRun and supporting the Davis Schools Foundation through monetary or in-kind donations (or services) are welcome. Businesses are also invited to become an exhibitor at the event. Exhibiting companies will have the opportunity to showcase, demonstrate or sample products and services to athletes, event spectators and volunteers. For further information on sponsorships and exhibiting, please call The New Home Company at 916-771-2223.

Bibs and shirts can be picked up on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Cannery Farm House. Race morning packet pick up is also available at the start/finish area.
“The Cannery was designed with healthy and sustainable living in mind, so the CanRun is a natural fit for the community,” said Kevin Carson, Northern California President for NEW HOME. “The response to The Cannery from those in Davis, as well as the greater Northern California region, has been overwhelmingly positive, so we are thrilled to present an event that will benefit the local public schools that are so vital to the desirability of the city.”

The Cannery is an innovative mixed-used community, developed by NEW HOME and designed with a seven-acre Urban Farm on the former Hunt-Wesson tomato cannery facility at E. Covell Boulevard and J Street, near the center of downtown Davis.

Visitors now have the opportunity to tour 17 model homes within The Cannery’s initial five residential neighborhoods, where sales are now underway and demand is strong. Prices range from the mid $400,000s to the low $1 millions.

The Cannery features a land plan that is the first of this scale in Davis in more than 20 years.
In addition to residences, NEW HOME has integrated numerous community amenities, including retail shops called The Cannery Village, a recreational center called The Ranch House, The Cannery Amphitheatre, The Farm House Welcome Center and the Urban Farm.

Through a collaborative effort with the Center for Land-Based Learning of Winters, Calif., the Urban Farm will serve as a state-of-the-art example of sustainable urban farming and as an agri-classroom for students and beginning farmers.
